What is a Medical Nexus Letter?
A medical nexus letter is a written medical opinion that explains the connection between a veteran’s current medical condition and their military service. These letters are often used as supporting documentation in VA disability claims.

About the Provider
Alan C. Eddison, DNP, APRN
Doctor of Nursing Practice - Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
Dr.Eddison is a Doctor of Nursing Practice and licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with extensive clinical and academic experience. He serves as an Assistant Professor at Florida Atlantic University and as a Clinical Director with Volunteers in Medicine, a nonprofit organization that provides free healthcare services to uninsured individuals living at or below the poverty level in Martin County, Florida.
He is a United States Coast Guard veteran and a service-connected disabled veteran, which informs his understanding of the long-term medical impacts of military service and the challenges veterans may face when seeking VA disability benefits.
Dr.Eddison’s approach to providing independent medical nexus letters is grounded in clinical rigor, compassion, and accessibility. His commitment to offering this service at an affordable costs reflects the same values that guide his work with underserved populations.
Dr.Eddison’s clinical work has long focused on caring for individuals who face barriers to accessing healthcare. Through his role with VIM, he helps provide free medical services to uninsured patients living at or below the federal poverty level, reinforcing his belief that high-quality medical care should be both ethical and accessible.
That same philosophy guides his work preparing independent medical nexus opinions for veterans. Each case is reviewed individually, with careful attention to medical history, clinical evidence, and professional judgement. All nexus letters are prepared independently and within the scope of practice of a Doctor of Nursing Practice.
